“Well Cleeve Hill is a golfing experience any avid golfer should do. Its different, its quirky and look into what golf used to be like. The course is burnt out as many courses are but the turf is not rock hard and has that true links ground which is a pleasure to hit off. The pro shop is the opposite to the golf course, new with great staff and extremely reasonably priced golf wear. I would make sure you have £25 spare for a hat or tshirt. So glad we spent 4 hours to get there, well worth the drive”
“Cleeve Hill is one of the most unique golfing experiences I have ever had. The website is excellent, with great photos and helpful information, and booking was easy. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout the day. This is a true community golf club, not a designed primarily as a tourist destination, and that's part of its charm. The historic clubhouse and facilities are basic, exactly as you would expect from a club that exists first and foremost for its members and local community. Practice facilities are minimal—a few nets and a small putting green—but that completely misses the point of this place. Cleeve Hill Common is one of England's great historic open spaces, shared by golfers, hikers, sheep, wildlife, and local residents. Playing here feels less like visiting a golf course and more like stepping into a centuries-old landscape. The course is unforgettable. The views are spectacular, the elevation changes are dramatic, and the setting is unlike anything I have experienced elsewhere. One green sits within the earthwork outline of an Iron Age settlement, and a memorable par 3 plays across an old quarry. Sheep graze throughout the property and hikers cross the common, adding to the sense that golf is simply one part of this remarkable landscape. After the round, a sandwich and beer in the clubhouse were the perfect finish. Cleeve Hill is not just a golf course—it is a unique piece of golfing history and one of the most memorable rounds I have ever played.”
“A truly exceptional inland golf experience at Cleeve Hill Golf Club. Steeped in history and shaped by legendary designers Old Tom Morris and Dr Alister MacKenzie, the course has a character that is hard to match. From the moment you arrive, the views are breathtaking, even from the car park. The clubhouse is full of old world charm and feels like a step back in time, while the pro shop breaks the mould completely. It is welcoming, relaxed, and full of personality. The staff went above and beyond, sharing insights into the course’s history, how best to play it, and its importance to the local community. Having played St Andrews, I was struck by the immediate links feel. The sandstone quarries, rolling fairways, and natural undulations create a course that is both serene and challenging, with incredible views across the surrounding countryside and towns. Every hole feels distinct and rewards thoughtful play, reflecting the brilliance of its designers. Even in overcast, drizzly weather, the experience was unforgettable. I would highly recommend it to any golfer and cannot wait to return.”
