Established in 1923, Temple Newsum Golf Club offers two majestic, 18 hole parkland courses set in the heart of Yorkshire. The Lord Irwin course at 6407 yards and the Lady Dorothy at 6261 yards are only a 5 minute drive from Leeds City Centre.
Designed by the legendary course architect Dr Alister Mackenzie, who also designed some of the most famous golf courses in the world such as Augusta, Cypress Point and over 50 courses in the UK and Ireland alone.
The course started life as the Leeds Municipal Golf Club when Alderman Alf Masser and A. G. (Bert) Baker, the then golf correspondent at the Yorkshire Evening Post newspaper, campaigned long and hard for the introduction of municipal golf in Leeds.
Consequently, the first golf course at Temple Newsam, designed by Dr. Alister Mackenzie, was opened on 20th July 1923. However, Mr. Baker had already gathered interested parties together and in February of that year, a meeting was convened at the Hotel Metropole in Leeds and the Leeds Municipal Golfers Club was born.
