“Had the privilege of spending two days at Walton Heath Golf Club, playing both the Old and New courses. This is a historic course, one of the most storied courses in Surrey (hosting the Ryder Cup and US Open qualifying, the latter as recently as this year) and from the moment you enter the grounds, you know you’re somewhere special. The clubhouse is very modern and has a relaxing atmosphere. The Proshop is excellent - they have really fantastic merchandise and the staff are very friendly. I think it’s a welcoming course, very busy at all times (in the most positive sense) and I felt free to wander around and check out all the amenities - really good atmosphere, an ideal environment to spend time before heading out. On to the course, starting with the Old - the first tee is a 200+ yd Par 3 and gives you a taste of the challenge to come. You cross the road after that hole and you’re on the course proper - a vast open space studded with huge trees, heather and immaculate playing surfaces. Don’t let the wide spaces fool you into thinking you don’t need to be accurate - you won’t be taking out your driver very often because ball placement and course management is absolutely essential. It isn’t hard to lose a ball to the heather and even the light rough! Every hole has an interesting quirk and you can see why James Braid moved to Walton to become an esteemed member….you could play the old course hundreds of times and never get bored! The greens and bunkers are excellent. The Old course presents a wonderful challenge, but still offers ample entertainment. I left the first day absolutely itching for Day 2…. The New course is where I had the most fun. While not as highly ‘rated’ as the Old, having spoken to lots of people, it certainly has its fair share of people that prefer it. The standard of the course is identical - fairways, bunkers and greens are given the same level of care and attention as the Old. It could be that I was striking the ball much better on the second day, but I felt the New course was slightly more forgiving and just that little bit more fun to play. It flows really well. I’d play both again in an instant if given the opportunity, but if I wanted to play a four-ball in a mixed-ability group of friends, I think I’d be more inclined towards the New course. In short, Walton Heath - both Old and New - is a must-play course and comfortably exceeds its reputation as one of Surrey’s - and the UK’s - finest and most historic Heathland Courses. Thanks to all the staff and members who made our visit so memorable. *excuse my photography, my pictures really haven’t captured the beauty of the course quite as much as I’d hoped. My videos did a better job, but I cannot upload them.”
“Beautiful course, fantastic greens and proves a real challenge. Was very lucky with the weather and got a beautiful day. Clubhouse is lovely, staff were helpful and food was fantastic! Would recommend to anyone”
“Stunning course with great staff. Course is setup to be challenging but rewarding and offers great views as you work your way round. Bunkers are well placed but well maintained and the heather isn’t as tight as feared. Driving range is a bit of a walk away but that’s the only issue I found, would highly recommend”
