“My first of the “Three W’s” and it didn’t disappoint. While I love the challenge of a costal links course, there is something magical about a world-class heathland course and it’s own unique challenges. So on to West Hill, which I’ll start by saying - as someone who lives in and plays all over Surrey - is one of the finest courses in an area that might just be the most densely saturated area for world-class courses in the whole of the UK, if not the world. Immaculate would be the prevailing theme of this review - the greens, the fairways, the second cut, the bunkers, the flourishing heather - were all in such perfect condition, you’d seldom believe it. Having recently watched Rory capture his second Masters at Augusta, I couldn’t help but make the associations in my mind - this could well be the Augusta of Surrey!! All of the holes had something about them - it’s not the longest course in the world, but West Hill has more than enough to present a challenge to even the best golfers. It always helps when you’re playing well, and I didn’t find myself in too much trouble, but accuracy is so important here and leaving yourself with 80-100yds in is imperative if you want to hold the green and give yourself a chance. I will make one - kind of a joke - criticism pertaining to this - the 18th hole is like 5ft from the unprotected patio of the clubhouse - so nervous was I of thinning it or getting too much, that from 100yds out, I went down two clubs just to be safe and put it on the front edge of the green!!! They generally have good golfers playing there though and we had a few pints right next to the 18th and left completely undisturbed!! But in all seriousness, it’s a great closing hole and a fitting end to an amazing course. West Hill is a true gem and should be on anyone’s list if they want to get a true heathland experience in the heart of Surrey.”

“Course was spectacular. A really tough challenge and definitely not a course if you are just starting out on your golf journey. Greens had been sanded recently which usually would be disappointing but actually in this hot weather it made the ball land a bit softer! Food was fantastic, young chap in the pro shop really welcoming also. Great place to play golf”
