What a great couple of days on this golden coast in Merseyside, playing Formby GC and Formby Ladies GC. Even though these 2 courses share the same land and the same pro shop, they are very different in character. Throw in some gusty winds and the odd sharp shower and it turns into a true test of golf. Thankfully the autumn sunshine was on show for most of it which made it look a little warmer than it actually was.
Day 1 at Formby GC was fiercely competitive with a direct trip to the European finals and the last remaining OOM points up for grabs. Formby GC and its iconic clubhouse never fails to deliver its quality -

The natural terrain of the course is lined by towering pines and soaring dunes, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. There are tricky doglegs, blind shots, and undulating greens which are the perfect setting when so much is at stake. Despite only 16 holes being open due to reconstruction work, the scoring was very good with only 8 pairs not breaking par or better and only 3 points separating the top 8 pairs. It was father and son due - Neil Timby (Hcp 2.4) and Alfie Timby (Hcp 6.2) that led the half time race by 1 point. Day 2 at Formby Ladies GC where the wind had certainly not relented. The green staff worked hard to clear all the debris that the wind had thrown over the course, they did a fantastic job of retaining the truly immaculate fairways and greens. Don't be fooled into thinking it won't be a tough test of golf due to its length (5300 yds), Formby Ladies can and will beat up some of the best golfers. With all this in mind, the scoring was very close with 3 pairs posting a final round score of 41 pts. Overall for the 36 Hole event Neil & Alfie Timby managed to hold on with a fantastic overall score of 81 pts over the 2 days just pipping Dean Osbourne & John Lee by1 point.
Congratulations Neil & Alfie who qualify for our Finals in Spain at the end of Jan 2026.
