Sotogrande, renowned for its picturesque Andalusian coastline and prestigious facilities, has further solidified its status as Europe’s premier golf destination with the most recent Golf Digest World Top 100 ranking. The only two Spanish courses making the list are within the Sotogrande estate, with Real Club Valderrama securing 29th place, and neighbouring Real Club de Golf Sotogrande making an impressive debut in 74th place.
Just seven golf courses within Continental Europe have made it into the recent Golf Digest World Top 100 rankings, further emphasising the quality of golf courses within Sotogrande, and cementing the SO/ Sotogrande Spa and Golf Resort position as one of the most premium 5-star golf hotels in Europe.

Sotogrande has long been the provider of world-class sports facilities, founded in the 1960s as a unique private golf and family destination, offering tennis, polo, yachting and notably, golf. The first 5-star hotel in the estate, SO/ Sotogrande Spa and Golf Resort allows access to the four championship golf courses: Real Club Valderrama, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, La Reserva Club, and Almenara Golf.
Widely considered Spain’s No. 1 Golf course, Real Club Valderrama has hosted some of the world’s most prestigious events, including the 1997 Ryder Cup, 16 Volvo Masters events and 2 World Golf Championships. Valderrama recently became the host course for LIV Golf Andalucía. Valderrama’s immaculate fairways and greens, set against the backdrop of the scenic Andalusian landscape, offer an unforgettable experience.
Real Club de Golf Sotogrande is intimately bound to the creation of the estate. Officially opened as the first golf course in Sotogrande in 1964, the venue featured the first Robert Trent Jones design in Europe and is now home to the DP World Tour’s Andalucia Masters.
Not featuring in this ranking, but frequently ranked among the best courses in Spain, is La Reserva Club. Having hosted multiple professional events across the DP World Tour and the Ladies European Tour, La Reserva has been gaining international acclaim over the past decade, recently achieving its highest ranking of 7th in the country by Golf World’s Top 100 rankings.
Rita Jordao, Director of Marketing at Sotogrande SA, commented: “This is an excellent recognition for Sotogrande. It underscores the commitment from all courses in Sotogrande to providing exceptional experiences and maintaining the highest standards across all amenities. We are very proud to have two of the four courses in Sotogrande featured prominently in Golf Digest’s World Top 100 among such esteemed company, and this is also a testament to the excellent work done by the teams at Valderrama and Real Club Sotogrande over the year.”
