Consisting of more than 29,000 professionals, the Metropolitan PGA is among the leading members of the PGA of America, and Terras da Comporta director of golf Rodrigo Ulrich is relishing the prospect of working with one of the most influential professional golf organisations in North America.
Ulrich said: “The United States is an important market for Terras da Comporta, and we’re thrilled to have formed this new partnership with one of the biggest PGA member groups in the US thanks to our relationship with Garmany Golf.
“With an increasing number of airlines and cities flying directly to Portugal, it’s never been easier for golfers from North America to visit our country and, with a second 18-hole course, The Torre, opening at Terras da Comporta in June 2025, we can’t wait to showcase our golf and other facilities to players and groups of all abilities in the coming years.”
Jeff Voorheis, executive director of the Metropolitan PGA, said: “This is a unique and incredibly exciting opportunity for the Met PGA and our members. Our PGA professionals and their club members gravitate toward excellence, and with Comporta Dunas being named as the ‘World’s Best Golf Course’ at the World Golf Awards and with Garmany Golf as our mutual activation partner, we’re confident that this partnership can help our PGA professionals deliver world-class experiences for the members of their clubs.”
Bud Garmany, president and founder of Garmany Golf, who brokered a similar partnership between the Southern California PGA and Terras da Comporta last year, added: “The partnership between Garmany Golf, The Dunas Course and the Met PGA is a unique and special opportunity for everyone involved.
The details
“To be able to continue our partnership with The Dunas Course, and to combine that partnership with the Met PGA, the original PGA section in America, is truly a very special collaboration. We look forward to showcasing this incredible golf course, and of course their world-class hospitality, to the great members of the Met PGA.”
Located one hour south of Lisbon, The Dunas Course at Terras da Comporta is architect David McLay-Kidd’s first golf course in mainland Europe and has won universal golf acclaim since opening in June 2023.
Owned by Vanguard Properties, Portugal’s largest real estate developer who took ownership of the development in 2019, the par-71 layout is the first of two 18-hole courses that is being built at Terras da Comporta, with a second designed by European Ryder Cup legend Sergio Garcia set to open this summer.
Measuring 6,575 metres from the back tees when it is completed, The Torre Course – the first course that Garcia has worked on in Portugal – is set to feature a combination of risk-and-reward holes, tight fairways and small greens, with the Spaniard taking inspiration from his favourite course in the world, Valderrama.
Away from the fairways, an array of lifestyle activities will also be available including horse-riding, wellness, tennis, padel, pickleball and many other sports, with a wide range of plots for hotels, tourist and residential condominiums also on offer.
